10:30am - noon: Local Heroes ceremony
at Degrees Plato, 4251 MacArthur boulevard

Hosted by Oakland Councilmember Sheng Thao, the 2022 Local Heroes Ceremony honors District 4 volunteers for their tireless community work. Join your friends, neighbors, and local entrepreneurs in applauding our heroes, learn about service programs/projects, and how to get involved.

12:30pm - 2pm: Lion Dance Parade
along MacArthur Boulevard from 35th Avenue to High Street

The Laurel District Lion Dance Parade and Blessing of Local Businesses begins at the Heroes Ceremony and moves along MacArthur Blvd. Sifu “Master” Lacey leads the Buk Sing Kung Fu Academy of Fremont in Traditional Lion Dance and unleashes two lions with music and firecrackers, and of course, offerings to bring luck and welcome the year of the Tiger. The Year of the Water Tiger is a time to fiercely pursue passions, make career adjustments, build teams, or get back into creative projects. The Tiger denotes strength, vitality, and growth. Happy New Year!

The events are free and open to the public
